Ghazals
Ghazal, one of the corner stone of Urdu poetry, has a greatly diverse and colorful history and legacy. It is now the shining star over the forehead of Urdu poetry in particular and Urdu literature in general. To begin with, let us get started with the fact that birth place of "Ghazal" is ancient Iran; to be a bit more precise, in the 10th century AD.
The Urdu poetry is widely read among the masses of different nationalities. It is believed to be a rich source of mental simulation and enrichment of the thought process. Urdu language has seen several great poets in different parts of the world who contributed a lot in making this poetry reach its intellectual pinnacle.
Ghazal (pronounced guzzle), is a mono-rhymed and lyrical-styled poem with a minimum of five couplets. Normally, it does not have more than fifteen. The first rhyming couplet of the ghazal introduces a poetic scheme which is made with a rhyme followed by a refrain. This form was made famous by the poets Rumi and Hafiz.
